Clearing Up Misunderstandings

OK, OK, so it's not the list I promised. I'm working on that one, but it's not easy saving the whole world (of classic rock radio)! So, I've got a nugget to tide you over for a bit, and it will clear up some misunderstandings.
First, Foreigner's "Long, Long Way From Home" - Despite what it sounds like Lou Gramm is saying, he did not leave his hometown for "the apple, Linda Kay," and it's safe to assume that the neighbor of my parents and Ross's did not have an extramarital affair with him. So sorry to burst your bubble. (If you don't get it, ask someone who grew up in that area.)
Next, Van Halen's "Beautiful Girls" - Diamond Dave is not saying to a young woman "set your cell phone down" in 1978. For all of Dave's gifts, he is not Nostradamus, and cell phones had yet to be invented. He is simply telling her to "sit yourself on down."
Third (and, thankfully, last), is Billy Squier's "My Kinda Lover" - When he says he is "waiting online," it is not because he has a slow internet connection. This was several years prior to the invention of the internet (I think Al Gore was still just in the House of Representatives, but I could be wrong).
If you don't get these jokes, ask someone who has been to England and likes that kind of humor. Otherwise, wait for my next post.

Your email got me thinking, and I came up with a few other common misconceptions I thought of that are associated with popular rock/pop songs:
Van Halen's "Panama" is not a song about a canal built by Manuel Noriega....
Neil Diamond's "Love on the rocks" is not a song about making out on large boulders....
REO Speedwagon's "I Cant fight this feeling any longer" has absolutely NOTHING to do with waiting too long to go pee....
Steve Miller did not sing "Keep on rocking me baby" in an effort to get people to rhythmically shake his infant's crib and put it to sleep....
The Door's "Light my Fire" is not about blue-darting....
Foreigner's song "Hot Blooded" does not refer to the constant physiologic body temperature regulation of endothermic mammals...
Poison's "Unskinny Bop" is not a song about Aretha Franklin dancing onstage......
Queensryche's "Breaking the Silence of the night" is not related to nocturnal flatulation....
When Whitesnake sings "Slide it in, right to the top" they are not talking about making sure their Nintendo game cartridge is properly seated in the console.
Billy Idol's "Rebel Yell" is not the UNLV fight song....
Twisted Sisters' song "I wanna Rock" is not a song about their desire to collect minerals.....
Michael Jackson's song "Beat It" is NOT a song about spanking the...uhh... um.... Ok well in his case maybe it actually was a song about doing that.
Dave Matthews Band's song "Crash into me" is not about riding the bumper cars at Disneyland...
Cinderella's "Dont know whatcha got till its gone" is not about Social Security, Medicare, or low cost gasoline....
The Ozzy Osbourne Album "No more tears" has nothing to do with switching to Johnson's baby shampoo....
The Joe Satriani Album "Surfing with the Alien" was not inspired by catching waves with a Mexican...
Rowdy coeds at the University of Kentucky did not inspire Sex Pistols to write "Anarchy in the UK"
"Pour some sugar on me" was not inspired by Def Leppard eating unsweetened cereal every day....
Van Halen's "Runnin with the Devil" is not about jogging with Hillary Clinton....
Contrary to popular belief, Jim Henson was not the inspiration for Metallica's "Master of Puppets"
And last of all, the Judas Priest song "Turbo Lover" is not a song about premature ejaculation although it sure sounds like it is!
