More Small Hits from More Big Names

(Paul says:)
As promised, here is another playlist (of 250 tracks!!!) filled with either minor hits or album tracks that should've been hits from names you ought to recognize. As with the previous list, there are some songs you will have heard, but my point once again is to prove that classic rock commercial radio doesn't have to be as stale as it has become! I hope you will find some songs that you enjoy here, and maybe someday I'll be the P.D. (program director) of a station near you.

I may not post anything for a bit; we're on vacation next week, and I've exhausted my creativity for a bit. However, I know there are some names that didn't make either playlist that should have, so there will be a third version of this type before the promised "ultimate" playlist that I discussed a few weeks ago. In the meantime, it would take several hours of listening for you to even get through what I've posted anyway, so I hope this will suffice for now.

P

P.S. It's our 15th anniversary on July 30th, so I've posted another playlist on our family blog, so feel free to check that one out, too!

Small Hits, (Some) Big Names

(Paul says:)
Here is a 210-song playlist that features some big names (and some smaller ones) playing their less well-known hits (and some that should have been hits). I will let you judge for yourself about the content (leave a comment here or send an e-mail to ross_and_paul@yahoo.com). The only note I have is that the Van Halen here is David Lee Roth-era, so I've included Sammy Hagar as a solo artist. I will make a list similar to this with some bands that I've overlooked, so that will have "Van Hagar" and DLR solo stuff.

Clearing Up Misunderstandings

Clearing up misunderstandings

(Paul says:)
OK, OK, so it's not the list I promised. I'm working on that one, but it's not easy saving the whole world (of classic rock radio)! So, I've got a nugget to tide you over for a bit, and it will clear up some misunderstandings.

First, Foreigner's "Long, Long Way From Home" - Despite what it sounds like Lou Gramm is saying, he did not leave his hometown for "the apple, Linda Kay," and it's safe to assume that the neighbor of my parents and Ross's did not have an extramarital affair with him. So sorry to burst your bubble. (If you don't get it, ask someone who grew up in that area.)

Next, Van Halen's "Beautiful Girls" - Diamond Dave is not saying to a young woman "set your cell phone down" in 1978. For all of Dave's gifts, he is not Nostradamus, and cell phones had yet to be invented. He is simply telling her to "sit yourself on down."

Third (and, thankfully, last), is Billy Squier's "My Kinda Lover" - When he says he is "waiting online," it is not because he has a slow internet connection. This was several years prior to the invention of the internet (I think Al Gore was still just in the House of Representatives, but I could be wrong).

If you don't get these jokes, ask someone who has been to England and likes that kind of humor. Otherwise, wait for my next post.

Regarding No New Posts for a While

(Paul says:)
Sorry there haven't been any new posts for a while. I intended to let you, gentle reader, digest the rather large offering of new classic rock from my last post.

My next post will highlight the other problem I have with "Classic Rock Radio" stations (the first being that they don't play the new music from the artists that are still making good music), and that is they play only a handful of the biggest hits. I will seek to make the case to you that there are plenty of lesser hits to keep the airwaves much fresher than they are currently maintained. Look for that in a few days.

After I complete that entry, I will again leave a large gap for a while to allow further digestion of a big entry. (Feast or famine...) In late July or early August, look for "the ultimate classic rock play list" that I will again make with Finetune.com, which will allow three tracks per artist. I will choose one of the newer tunes (where applicable; obviously, there are no new Beatles tunes coming out), one older tune that is a lesser hit, and a wild card song - perhaps a bigger hit, perhaps another newer one, perhaps another smaller hit - it all depends on the artist, my mood, and - this is where I need your help - your request. So please give me some feedback!

'Til next time.
